PIA of VA/DC and PeopleShare have recently partnered to help you find the right person for the job.

PeopleShare is a locally owned staffing agency that is currently serving northern and eastern Virginia. They have a very thorough selection process where they meet every candidate three times before they ever start an assignment. All candidates are “skills verified” through their automated testing software for skills such as Microsoft Office Suite, Customer Service and Data Entry.

We already have four PIA member agents who have had success with PeopleShare. It works!

A Little History Behind your NPN Number

Years ago, in many states an agent’s license number was their social security number; any time an agent was required to provide their license number, they had no choice but to deliver their most private form of identification.


The National Insurance Producer Registry was incorporated in 1996 as a non-profit affiliate to the National Association of Insurance Commissioners. NIPR developed a Producer Database (PDB) which became a national database where state regulatory agencies can connect and store licensing information. A benefit of the PDB is the creation of a National Producer Number for licensed agents. Through the multi-state participation in the PDB, this number is linked to all applicable licenses an agent may have across the country and brings with it the benefit of a number that has no direct relationship to an agent’s license or social security number.

PIAVADC Agency Membership Dues Structure

PIAVADC offers four types of membership:


  1. Agency:  engaged in the insurance business.  Dues are based on total number of full-time, P&C licensed agents.  Agency membership includes PIA National dues.
  2. Company:  officers, representatives or employees of an insurance company or any other individual affiliated directly or indirectly with property/casualty insurance business.  Annual dues are per company.
  3. Associate:  an organization that does not fall into either Agency or Company member categories.  Annual dues are per company, not individual.
  4. Retired:  an individual no longer in the insurance business but was an active PIA member at one time.

Matthew McHatten Named President & Chief Executive Officer of MMG Insurance

MMG Insurance Company is pleased to announce that the Company’s Board of Directors has appointed Matthew McHatten as President & Chief Executive Officer (CEO), effective January 1, 2023.

McHatten assumes the role of President & CEO following the retirement of Larry Shaw, who retired at the end of 2022 after serving as President & CEO of MMG for 28 years. McHatten was named to succeed Shaw in late 2019 as part of a broader leadership succession plan as Shaw positioned to retire. Shaw was elected to serve on MMG’s Board of Directors and will continue his service to the Company as a Director.
