Carolyn R. Throckmorton Celebrates 20 Years with PIAVADC
Carolyn R. Throckmorton, Accounting Manager. began working with PIA VA/DC as a bookkeeper in April of 2002. Prior to joining PIA, she was with another small organization for 18 years doing similar work. Carol has done a little bit of everything during her 20 years with PIA. She is the point person for our annual convention which has earned her the well-deserved nickname of “Convention Queen”. Carol organizes the annual golf tournament, handles membership, assisted in the creation of the new website, was important in moving the office a few of times over the years, and even briefly sold E&O. She is a member of the convention and philanthropic committees. In 2009, she received her P&C license, followed by the CISR designation in 2011 and the CPIA designation in 2015.
Association Executive Kevin P. Kowar had this to say about Carol - “We are very fortunate to have Carol on our team as she truly cares about our association and its members.” Kevin added – “Carol is very detail oriented and strives for perfection in everything she does.”
PIA President Carla Marks echoed Kevin’s sentiments – “I don’t know where we’d be without Carol’s hard work and dedication. We are truly blessed to have her on our team.”
Carol and her husband, George, live in Urbanna with Sophie, their 12-year-old Shih Tzu. Sophie has also been an active member of PIA, attending several of the yearly conventions. Carol is extremely proud of her family and enjoys being a grandmother.

Sheryl Chasse Celebrates 10 Years with PIAVADC
On August 7, 2012 Sheryl Chasse joined PIA VA/DC as Director of Education and Event Coordinator. In those 10 years, Sheryl has been very active with our students helping them to map out their educational objectives. She works closely with The National Alliance and the AIMS Society to deliver quality educational opportunities to our students.
Since joining PIA Sheryl has been responsible for overseeing over 1,000 classes. When the pandemic hit, Sheryl was instrumental in moving our in-person classes to webinars and then to hybrids. We never missed a beat. Since 2020, Sheryl has expanded her responsibilities to include PIA North Carolina. No matter the challenge, she takes it on and succeeds. She even makes time to teach every now and then!
Sheryl is also the liaison to our Young Professionals Council and can be seen at all of their events enthusiastically cheering them on.
Sheryl has done many things leading up to her PIA experience, both inside and outside the insurance industry, from sales to recruiting. She is a Licensed P&C and L&H agent in Virginia.
On a personal note, Sheryl hails from Maine but has been a Virginian for over 20 years. She has a grown son, Dominic, and a goldendoodle puppy named Indy Anna.
