PIA National Names Jason Kilgo 2022 Professional Agent of the Year
Jason Kilgo, CPIA, Founder of Kilgo Insurance of Midlothian, Virginia, has been named the 2022 Professional Agent of the Year by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA).
"This award is PIA's highest honor," said PIA National Vice President/Treasurer Gerald F. Hemphill, chair of the awards task force.
"Jason exhibits the utmost professionalism," Hemphill said. "He makes extensive use of technology in his agency marketing, including blogs and videos on his YouTube channel. He was Agent of the Year from PIA of Virginia/DC in 2021 and was Erie branch winner for personal lines in 2017."
Rep. Ben Cline Presented with PIA Legislator of the Year Award
Congressman Ben Cline (R-VA) has been presented with the 2022 PIA Legislator of the Year Award by the National Association of Professional Insurance Agents (PIA). The executive committee of the insurance agents association, led by its president Tony Curti, made the presentation May 10, 2022 on Capitol Hill.
Rep. Cline was chosen to receive the award due to his steadfast leadership in defending the state insurance regulatory system. Rep. Cline introduced legislation to repeal the Federal Insurance Office (FIO). FIO repeal is a PIA top priority. Rep. Cline introduced H.R. 4866, the Federal Insurance Office Elimination Act of 2021.
"The bill introduced by Rep. Cline will protect the successful state insurance regulatory system by repealing the FIO, an unnecessary federal bureaucracy created by the 2010 Dodd-Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act (Dodd-Frank)," said PIA vice president of government relations Jon Gentile. "PIA opposed the creation of the FIO from the outset and we firmly believe its continuing existence poses a threat to the successful state-based insurance regulatory system."
"Rep. Cline's leadership in putting forward a bill to repeal the FIO brings needed action in support of a key issue for independent insurance agents and their customers. We are proud to honor him," said PIA President Tony Curti.

Carolyn R. Throckmorton Celebrates 20 Years with PIAVADC
Carolyn R. Throckmorton, Accounting Manager. began working with PIA VA/DC as a bookkeeper in April of 2002. Prior to joining PIA, she was with another small organization for 18 years doing similar work. Carol has done a little bit of everything during her 20 years with PIA. She is the point person for our annual convention which has earned her the well-deserved nickname of "Convention Queen". Carol organizes the annual golf tournament, handles membership, assisted in the creation of the new website, was important in moving the office a few of times over the years, and even briefly sold E&O. She is a member of the convention and philanthropic committees. In 2009, she received her P&C license, followed by the CISR designation in 2011 and the CPIA designation in 2015.
Association Executive Kevin P. Kowar had this to say about Carol - "We are very fortunate to have Carol on our team as she truly cares about our association and its members." Kevin added - "Carol is very detail oriented and strives for perfection in everything she does."
PIA President Carla Marks echoed Kevin's sentiments - "I don't know where we'd be without Carol's hard work and dedication. We are truly blessed to have her on our team."
Carol and her husband, George, live in Urbanna with Sophie, their 12-year-old Shih Tzu. Sophie has also been an active member of PIA, attending several of the yearly conventions. Carol is extremely proud of her family and enjoys being a grandmother.
Please join us in congratulating Carol on her work anniversary with the PIA.

What is ransomware?
Ransomware prevents you and your customers from accessing your computer systems by encrypting files so they're unusable. To release them, the criminals ask for something in return, usually money or information.
62% of consumers who buy from direct writers say they use the internet to find insurance. You need to be online to win their business. Learn how to connect and transform your agency to compete in a digital world.
